Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory.

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Latvia are as follows: City - 31mph/50kph, Open Roads - 55mph/90kph, Highways - 62mph/100kph.

Rules of the Road
Drive on the right hand side of the road. Driving with lights on is required 24 hours a day. It is strictly forbidden for drivers to drive and use a mobile phone, unless free hand equipment is installed. You can speak in the phone only when you have stopped the car. Child seats are required, if there is a younger than 3 years old child in a car.

Gas
Gas stations are well-equipped and widespread, most 24 hour service. You will want to gas up at Statoil, Neste or Lukoil for highest quality and value.

Parking
Some areas of Latvia have established 'Pay and Display' parking, in these areas you will need to purchase a disc or ticket from a meter to display on your dashboard. Illegally parked cars will have a wheel clamp placed on them.
