RequirementsTo rent a car, you must be at least 20 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for one year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. The use of seat belts is mandatory in Bulgaria for all passengers, except

pregnant women. Children under 12 years of age may ride in the front seat only if seated in a child car seat. Child seats are mandatory for children up to age 2.
Rules of the RoadTraffic travels on the right. A new law requires the use of headlights day and night from November 1st through March 31st. At crossings that are not regulated, the driver who is on the right has the right-of-way, but this rule is frequently ignored. Livestock and animal-drawn carts present road hazards throughout the country, especially during the agricultural season. On-the-spot fines are in operation for speeding, drink driving, not having the correct documents, etc. If you leave your passport with a hotel reception ask for a copy (or the original) if driving a rental car.
Speed LimitsSpeed limits in Bulgaria are as follows: City - 31mph/50kph, Open Roads - 55mph/90kph, Highways - 75mph/120kph.
ParkingOn one-way streets, park on the right only. Blue Zone parking is in effect in many built up areas and tickets are used instead of discs. When outside of built-up areas, you may park off the road.
